A road construction project completion date has been extended to next spring, Fulton engineer Kyle Bruemmer said.

General Contractor Rhad Baker said weather is going to determine the date of completion on the West Fourth Street project, as the temperature needs to be about 50 degree Fahreinheit to lay the road surface.

"Therefore, I anticipate construction to run into the spring of 2019," Bruemmer stated.

This project includes underground electric and communications, decorative lighting, new storm sewer, curb, large sidewalks, street pavement, and enhancements to an existing traffic signal. The project extends from the Westminster Avenue to Nichols and potentially Court Street on West Fourth Street. Traffic in and around this area should expect various lane and temporary street closures as work progresses.

The contractor, Bruemmer added, is exploring removing a barricade and opening up Pioneer Drive's connection to Jefferson Street to allow Fulton Housing Authority tenants to maneuver while work is affecting Pioneer Drive's typical connection at Fourth Street - an adjacent project also being completed.

Contractors continued work on the city's portion of the U.S. 54 project - from the roundabout on the south side of downtown north to about Walgreens. They recently switched from the east side of the north/south road to the west side.
