5 arrested in U-Haul theft plot

Police arrested five Columbia residents Monday for a theft involving two U-Haul trucks and a large quantity of stolen clothing, Sgt. Joe Schramm, of the Fulton Police Department, said.

At 4:29 p.m., police officers were called to Hibbett Sports in Fulton for a theft in progress. Witnesses told police several individuals had grabbed armloads of clothing and fled the property in two U-Haul trucks.

With the help of the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Callaway County Sheriff's Department, the Fulton police managed to locate and stop the two trucks near the intersection of U.S. 54 East and County Road 114.

The trucks' occupants were arrested when officers found the $1,872.77 worth of stolen clothing in the vehicles.

Jamal H. Jackson, 20; Talicia K. Fletcher, 23; Natasha A. Leonard, 31; TaeJour L. Hill, 17; and Javion V. Ellis, 21, were taken o the Callaway County Jail. Bond for each was set at $4,500.
