The beating heart of nearly every community is a vibrant downtown, and Fulton is no exception.

Events in the Brick District draw thousands every year, and the tail end of 2018 is no exception. Here are events planned "on the bricks" through the rest of this year.

Starting at 4 p.m. Sept. 13, the annual Brick Blast welcomes students to town from William Woods University and Westminster College.

Sept. 14-15, Brick District sidewalk sales.

Sept. 21-22, Fulton's Historic Brick District's 5th annual autumn celebration with "Art on the Bricks." Check out the schedule of events on the Art House website.

The weekend starts with an opening reception for Art House's Autumn Exhibit. The reception will be from 5-7 p.m. at the Art House.

Immediately afterward, stroll down to the Brick District Playhouse and kick up your heels to local stomp grass band, The Kay Brothers. There will be food and cocktails available. Don't miss this opportunity to see the progress of the historic theater's renovation and enjoy a wonderful evening of live entertainment.

From 9 a.m.-5 p.m. that Saturday, Court Street will be closed to traffic between Fifth and Sixth streets. Art on the Bricks will continue with an art show of the county's high school students in the Brick District Playhouse from 3-5 p.m.

In addition, enjoy an expanded farmers market in front of the court house, plus a pumpkin patch and live music. Admittance to the festival is free.

Also that weekend will be First Christian Church's annual Fall Festival from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Food, homemade pies, copper kettle apple butter, crafts, truckload apple sale and much more will be offered. And, the fall Girl Scout troop sign up will be from 10 a.m.-noon at Callaway County Public Library, 710 Court St., Fulton. See more at: www.girlscoutsmoheartland.org.

At the Brick District Playhouse, phase two of the theater renovation project is nearing completion. TRYPS Children's Theatre Institute of Stephen's College has started its fall classes with a production of "Treasure Island" on Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A Neil Diamond Tribute will be performed on the stage Nov. 10, as well as The Kay Brothers Christmas in December, to name a few.

VisionArts Eyecare Center is hosting a fundraiser BBQ from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Memorial Park, at the southern terminus of Fifth Street. All of the proceeds will go to Central Missouri Honor Flight. Make sure to stop in and grab a plate to support a great cause with BBQ pork steak meals and bake sale.

Dress your children in their cutest or scariest costumes and bring them down on Halloween for a fun and safe kick off to the evening. Local businesses in the Brick District will be handing out candy from 4-6 p.m. Bags will be provided or feel free to bring your own.

Downtown Fulton's annual Holiday Sneak Peek will be at 5 p.m. Nov. 2. Activities will include wagon rides, the holiday window contest, a Turkey Strut and a strolling Santa. There will be specials running throughout the local stores along with a giveaway for $100 gift certificates to use all over the Brick District.
