Tax bills to mail out Tuesday

County tax bills are coming soon, according to newly elected Callaway County Collector Sarah Gladman.

She expects them to ship Tuesday, she said Friday.

"We approved the proofs Tuesday and were told it would be five business days before they would ship," she added.

The county contracted with a new mailing company this year. Some delays in getting information from the assessors office also contributed to the later mail-out, Gladman said.

"People have definitely been calling us," she said.

Fulton Public Schools superintendent Jacque Cowherd pointed out the delay during Wednesday night's board of education meeting. He said the district usually receives about $20,000 in tax money during the month of November, though the bulk arrives in December and January.

"It's concerning that those bills aren't out in the mail," he said.

However, tax bills have been available online since Nov. 5 at callawaycollector.org, and can be paid through that website. For the less tech-savvy, Gladman said, people are welcome to visit the collector's office on the ground floor the Callaway County Courthouse.

"We can print your bill out for you while you're here, and you can pay it here too," she said.

As always, real estate and personal property tax bills are due Dec. 31.
