FULTON - The state's high construction project on U.S. Business 54 in Fulton has slowed down due to weather.

This Department of Transportation project spans the entire route from the north, going south to Route H on the south side of Fulton. Daytime paving will start today between 12th Street and the roundabout, starting after the morning rush.

Nicholas Hunter, construction inspector for the city of Fulton, said backups are expected with this work, and motorists are advised to seek an alternate route. One lane of Business Route 54 will be open at all times during the work and crews will flag motorists through the work zone.

Once daytime resurfacing is completed on the stretch between 12th Street and the roundabout, the contractor will be working on tying in side streets to Business 54. Silver Drive (U.S. 54 West Outer Road) will also be resurfaced during the daytime. This work is also scheduled to take place between morning and afternoon rush hours.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in December.

The $3.7 million project is a partnership between the Missouri Department of Transportation and the City of Fulton. The work includes sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian upgrades along Business 54.

Aplex, Inc. of Linn is the prime contractor for this project.
