Deer hunter injured near Fulton

A 17-year-old male was injured Wednesday while hunting deer.

The man, whom Callaway County Sheriff's Office officials declined to identify, is expected to survive.

At 10:43 a.m., deputies responded to a private property off State Road F, just outside Fulton, for a reported deer hunting accident. By 10:51 a.m., deputies had located the deer hunter in a creekbed.

Deputies administered first aid. When other first-responders arrived, the deputies assisted in bringing the hunter to a waiting ambulance.

The wound was apparently self-inflicted, Sheriff Clay Chism confirmed. He added, as is standard with hunting accidents, the investigation was transferred to the Missouri Department of Conservation, though the sheriff's office will continue to assist as needed.

The injured hunter was transported to a Columbia hospital by Callaway County EMS.

The Missouri Highway Patrol and the Central Callaway Fire Protection District assisted with the scene investigation.
