Thursday event warns of drunk driving

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - A pre-Memorial Day event Thursday will hopefully remind people about the dangers of intoxicated driving.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Save Our Air Medical Resources are hosting the event beginning at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson City Airport, off U.S. 54, north of the Missouri River bridge. Speakers include:

  • MADD Missouri Executive Director Meghan Carter.
  • Jeffrey Coughenour, MD FACS, a trauma surgeon in Columbia who serves as the medical director of the Frank L. Mitchell Jr. MD Trauma Center at the University of Missouri.
  • Don Ware, victim of an intoxicated driving crash whose life was saved by air medical transport.

Local law enforcement members also will on hand as well as two emergency medical helicopters from Staff for Life.
