Election filing closes for Cole County offices

Filing ended Tuesday for seven Cole County elected offices and one judgeship, and there will be several races later this year.

There will be three races in the August primary, all for the chance to represent the Republican Party in the general election in November.

For prosecuting attorney, incumbent Mark Richardson will face Locke Thompson. The winner will face Deidre Hirner, who filed Tuesday as a Democrat.

For recorder of deeds, incumbent Ralph Bray will face his former chief deputy, Judy Ridgeway. The winner will go on to face Democrat Ted Stewart, who filed Tuesday.

Cotton Walker and Timothy Anderson will face off for associate circuit judge. The winner will face Democrat Gaylin Rich Carver in the November general election. Incumbent Judge Tom Sodergren is not running for re-election.

Also in November, Republican county clerk incumbent Steve Korsmeyer will face Ann Moeckli, who filed Tuesday to run as a Green Party candidate.

Incumbents who will run unopposed in the August and November elections include Presiding Commissioner Sam Bushman and Auditor Kristen Berhorst, both Republicans and of whom will be on their second term in office.

Republican County Collector Larry Vincent will run unopposed. He has been in office since being appointed to the collector's position by then-Gov. Matt Blunt in October 2007 after Skip Rich retired.

Republican Circuit Clerk Dawnel Davidson also is unopposed. She has been in office since winning a special election in November 2012.

Republican Circuit Judge Jon Beetem also is unopposed. He has been in office since winning election in November 2006.

The associate circuit judge and all other county offices have four-year terms. The circuit judge seat Beetem is seeking again has a six-year term.
