Lifting Every Voice silent for now

Faith Voices of Jefferson City's fourth annual fundraiser, Lifting Every Voice, has been postponed.

Organizers said the action was taken because there were "multiple events happening in the community," according to the organization's Facebook page.

Faith Voices is a grassroots interfaith movement working to advance economic dignity, racial equality and social justice.

The Facebook post asks people to join the organization during the School Board Candidate Forum at 6 p.m. March 26 at Lincoln University. The exact site of the forum has yet to be determined.

Faith Voices of Jefferson City recently dissolved its 501(c)(3) status and began operating under the umbrella of Missouri Faith Voices, former board member Amy Rogers said.

When the organization went to order food for its event, it didn't have enough people signed up for the venue, Rogers said.

"I don't know if it is the timing or lack of interest," Rogers said. "We know that there are a lot of other things going on Friday. That could have had something to do with it this time of year."

Lifting Every Voice has not been canceled yet, Rogers said. But it could be combined with other events some Jefferson City-area faith organizations are planning.

"It could morph into something else, other than a dinner," she said. "We're not really sure right now."

Members of the organization have reached out to community members to see if there is something different they'd like to do with the event.

"Community input is a good thing," Rogers said. "I'm really hoping that this is just on hold for now."
