Holts Summit has resolved a scheduling dispute over the city's public baseball fields between the Optimist Club and The Wanted, two youth baseball groups in the area, during a meeting Friday.
The meeting came after the Optimist Club brought the issue to the city's Board of Alderman on Thursday. The group said it would be unable to hold a regular season, involving more than 300 children in non-competitive leagues, if it was unable to reserve enough time on Holts Summit's two game-appropriate ball fields.
The Board of Aldermen passed a resolution converting another area in Greenway Park to a ball field to create more options with scheduling and asked the groups to meet with city administration to work on a solution.
City Administrator Rick Hess said it took some work, but a compromise was found so both organizations had adequate time with the fields.
"Everybody got what they need," Hess said. "Nobody got everything they wanted but everybody left happy."
The Optimist Club also expressed concerns Thursday that The Wanted was given a higher priority with schedule as two coaches from the league worked as city officials.
City Administrator Rick Hess said Holts Summit never had any ulterior motives and wanted to manage the fields so both groups could use them as much as possible.
"That just gets more kids involved," Hess said.
