Members of the Fulton Medical Center Auxiliary recently awarded three scholarships for $1,000 each for students interested in studying for medical professions.

Funds are raised through various auxiliary activities, member Bonnie Shiverdecker said.

"We run the gift shop (at the hospital) and have the card parties, and we have a nut sale," she said.

Recipients of the 2018 scholarships are:

Laura Bailey: The daughter of Robert Bailey, she is a 2018 graduate of Fulton High School. Her academic record put her in the top 4 percent of her 147-member graduating class. Bailey participated in Academic Week and Leadership Week all four years of high school, and she was a member of the National Honor Society. She chose more difficult courses and built a reputation as a reliable, hard-working student in school and her community. She plans to attend Brigham Young University to study communication disorders, and expects to attend graduate school to prepare to become a speech pathologist.

Kaden W. Helsel: The son of Heath and Heather Helsel, he is a 2018 graduate of South Callaway High School. He plans to attend Drury University to study pre-dentistry and prepare from graduate school. In high school, Helsel focused on scholarship, leadership, service and character, as recognized by those who wrote recommendations for him. Helsel has taken advantage of opportunities in academics, athletics, school organizations and his community.

Baylee Garrett: The daughter of Creag and Jennifer Garrett, she is a sophomore at Truman State University and majoring in nursing. Garrett is from the New Bloomfield community and was a recipient of the Fulton Medical Center Auxiliary scholarship in 2017. She has maintained an excellent academic record and has been involved in her college and home communities and her church. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
