Police arrested a Jefferson City man for possessing narcotics and a firearm Tuesday afternoon after he tried to run from officers.

Maurice Rollins, 31, is accused of resisting arrest after Jefferson City police tried to contact him during a warrant investigation around 2 p.m. as he was standing at a bus stop in the 400 block of Ellis Boulevard. As officers approached, he began walking away, then running, but was caught and arrested by police after a short chase on foot.

Officers allegedly found narcotics and a firearm magazine in Rollins' possession. Retracing his path, they recovered a semi-automatic pistol they say is consistent with the magazine.

He reportedly had multiple previous warrants for his arrest including felony possession of narcotics and resisting arrest. Police are seeking new charges in connection with Tuesday's incident.
