VFW collects for Honor Flight

Members of the Fulton VFW are raising funds for Central Missouri Honor Flight for the next several weeks.

According to Larry Underwood, past commander, they will also donate funds raised from a June 29 dinner to that effort.

"If people want to drop off a check for the Honor Flight, they can bring it by the post," he said Monday. "We're going to give it to them on the 29th."

Central Missouri Honor Flight is already taking veterans this year to Washington, D.C. The group's mission is to transport veterans to visit their memorials in a one-day, all expenses paid trip. Last year, the 50th trip was accomplished. People can learn more at: centralmissourihonorflight.com.

"We collect for them every year," Underwood added. "We found out a lot of people want to donate, but don't know where to send donations."

The June 29 fried chicken dinner, hosted by the 83rd Helpers, will be 4:30-7 p.m. at the post, 505 Collier Lane in Fulton. There is a $12 donation, and all proceeds will go to the Honor Flight organization.
