A group of golfers prepare to tee off at the start of Friday's tournament.

Starting Friday morning off with coffee and the celebrated doughnut, several dozen teams of four sped out to the links at Tanglewood Golf Course for a day of hot competition.

Tamara Tateosian, executive director of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce, gave them their list of rules before Randy Bickel, manager of the city owned course, sent them on their way.

"We had 28 teams this year," Tateosian said. "We were maxed out. We had to actually turn teams away."

Most of the teams represented businesses in Callaway County, along with municipal teams and one from William Woods University.

"The first year I did this - three years ago - I think we had 25 teams," Tateosian added.

People who missed this event should not despair. Instead, check the golf course's website (tanglewoodfulton.org) for more special events. For example, the Callaway Crown Golf Tournament will begin 9 a.m. July 20 in which the "best golfer in Callaway County" will be chosen. The Mayor's Cup will be Sept. 7, followed by Sept. 21's Moonlight Madness Golf Tournament.

These golf tournaments are just a good way for people to get together, have fun and relax, Tateosian said.

"This is what it's about - fun and networking," she added. "(Coworkers) get to spend time in a relaxed atmosphere and get to know their team mates."

The results are:

A Flight

1st place - Callaway Bank Investment

2nd place - Edward Jones

3rd place - Kingdom City

B Flight

1st place- Martin, Forman Consulting

2nd place- Debo Funeral Home

In order to qualify for the B flight, they had to have at least two ladies on their team, Tateosian said.
