The Special Learning Center will host its 10th annual Moments of Magic gala Friday, themed "Journey to the Future."

The event will include performances by the students of the Special Learning Center and will incorporate music, movement and props.

Music for the event includes SLC graduates Sam and Silas Luetkemeyer. Local magician Gerry Tritz will also perform.

"This theme, 'Journey to the Future,' has to deal with how the Special Learning Center helps out at the very beginning of (the children's) journey in trying to help them find what different options, exploring different directions they can take," said Shae Marie Eickhoff, a director for the event.

Money raised will go to the Special Learning Center Foundation to help support the organization. It will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, with a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. that will include food and beverages as well as wine tasting compliments of St. James Winery.

The performance will start at 7 p.m. and will be followed by coffee and dessert.

Tickets can be purchased for $50 at the Special Learning Center or by calling 573-634-3070.

"We really try to celebrate and highlight the amazing stories and talents of these kids and the families that the Special Learning Center helps," Eickhoff said. "We give them an opportunity to shine, I guess."

The major sponsors for the gala are Gary and Millie Schell, who have supported Moments of Magic since its inception.

Special Learning Center Director Debbie Hamler said the fundraising goal is $40,000. The size of the venue caps the attendance for the gala at 300, which Hamler said will likely be reached.
