DeBrodie wrongful death suit transferred to Boone County

The wrongful death civil suit filed for Carl DeBrodie's mother and aunt has been transferred from Callaway County to Boone County, according to information on Missouri Casenet.

Rudy Veit, attorney for Carolyn Summers, filed the case Jan. 23 in the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Callaway County. On Jan. 25, Gabriel Harris - an attorney at Carson & Coil, like Veit - filed a motion to change the case's venue.

On Friday, Boone County Circuit Court Judge Hasbrouck Jacobs ordered the change of venue and will now preside over the case.

DeBrodie, 31, was initially reported missing April 17. The developmentally disabled man lived at a supported living facility managed at that time by Second Chance Homes of Fulton. On April 24, police found his decomposed body wrapped in plastic and encased in concrete in a Fulton storage unit.

The civil suit names a long list of defendants including Callaway County, and includes counts of wrongful death, negligence and civil rights violations, among others.
