Jefferson City man gets 12 years for assault

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for pleading guilty to a charge in a November 2015 assault case.

Wayne Ivory Jr., 27, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree domestic assault before Cole County Judge Dan Green.

He had been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and another count of second-degree domestic assault, but those charges were dismissed.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of East Cedar Way, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. The victim had agreed to pick up Ivory and take him to his home. While driving, he asked the victim to pull over and, after she did, asked her to have sex with him. When she said "no," Ivory forced the victim into the backseat of her vehicle, removed her clothing and forced her to have sex.

After the assault, the victim said, she was unable to open the rear door of her vehicle, so she kicked out a window and fled on foot. Ivory pursued the victim and tackled her to the ground. He then choked her to the point that she lost consciousness for a brief time, the victim said.

When she awoke, Ivory was standing over her. The victim got up and ran to her vehicle to flee from Ivory, but Ivory got in the car so she exited the vehicle again.

The victim then fell to the ground, and Ivory jumped into the driver's seat and ran over the victim's legs with the vehicle. After that, the victim said, Ivory put her in the vehicle and forced her to go to her mother's home until he allowed her to leave.

Officers located the victim's clothing and pieces of hair in the area where the attack occurred. The victim's injuries were consistent with her story of the assault.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where medical personnel told authorities the injuries to her lower legs and rectum were consistent with her story. Officers found Ivory at his residence.

When interviewed, Ivory said he was having consensual intercourse with the victim but admitted he didn't stop having intercourse even after she told him "no." Ivory also admitted to being involved in a domestic assault with the victim but said he did not run over her with her vehicle.

Court documents indicate Ivory has an extensive criminal history, including being on parole for burglary and receiving stolen property.
