South Callaway FFA takes home Top Chapter award

COLUMBIA, Mo. - South Callaway FFA placed 32nd out of 343 chapters in the state, earning a Top Chapter award at the 89th Missouri FFA Convention. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive a top chapter designation each year.

Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. The South Callaway FFA advisors are Darren Humphrey and Kenny Fort.

The South Callaway FFA student development activities included Food for America. Students showcased their supervised agricultural experience programs to early childhood and elementary students. The activity is intended for students to gain an understanding of how agriculture impacts their daily lives.

Chapter development activities included Focus on Agriculture Program. Through this program, FFA members focused on agricultural literacy through extended learning time, as well as participating in teaching and curriculum development for elementary and middle school students.

Community development activities included Recycle Reduce Reuse Program. This program encouraged environmental awareness within the chapter and the community by actively preserving and maintaining natural resources. Members collected recyclables from the high school and helped maintain a stretch of the local highway.

The top chapters compete for the National FFA Chapter Award. Winners will be announced this fall at the 91st National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis.
