Patty Franklin, of Fulton, won a free tube of Biofreeze on Thursday at the Callaway Senior Expo. The gift was given to her by Bob Czarnecki of Select Physical Therapy.

While the free pens and lip balm and raffle items are great, often it's the information sharing that drives folks to SERVE, Inc.'s annual Senior Expo.

This year was no different. Jewell Lammers not only learned about certain eye and balance exercises from Bob Czarnecki, a physical therapy assistant from Select PT, she told him about a few she'd tried.

She comes to the senior expo every year and visits all the booths, from businesses to social services agencies.

"They let you know what they have," Lammers said.

Also from Fulton, Patty Franklin visited the Select PT booth having won a gift in a half-hour raffle. Czarnecki presented her with a big tube of Biofreeze, a gel-like cold therapy pain lotion known well by many with aches and pains.

She's an annual visitor to the expo.

"We usually come every year, my sister and I," Franklin said. "You learn everything available for health care, and you learn about the library."

She said she's not ready for old age yet, but visiting the expo exposes her to information she will eventually need.

"I like learning about what's here in Callaway County, and what's new with Medicare," she said.

Czarnecki said representing his company at the expo is useful.

"It's just a great way to reach out to the community," he added.

This event, and the back to school fair, are hosted by Callaway Christian Church. The school fair will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 28.
