Two Columbia residents were arrested Sept. 23 after a long car chase starting in Callaway County.
According to Callway County Sheriff's Lt. Curtis Hall, Kathleen Morey, 29, and Daniel Peek, 28, were arrested on multiple charges.
Hall said a deputy attemped to stop a truck on County Road 269, in the northwest section of Callaway County, for speeding at 6:51 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Morey, fled from the deputy on various county roads in Callaway County and then entered Boone County.
While pursing the vehicle in Boone County, the driver turned around and drove head-on at the deputy, nearly missing his vehicle. Deputies continued to pursue the truck to O'Rear Road in Boone County at which point deputies took both occupants into custody. Both Morey and Peek, a passenger in the vehicle, were transferred to the Callaway County Jail.
Early Sunday, Morey remained in custody of the Callaway County Jail on charges including: exceeding the posted speed limit, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, resisting arrest (felony), and various other traffic charges. Morey was also arrested on two Boone County warrants for failure to appear.
Morey was also arrested for an unrelated Callaway County Sheriff's Office theft investigation from a commercial business in Millersburg that was investigated on Sept. 21.
Peek remains in custody at the Callaway County Jail on charges of stealing - fourth or subsequent offense (felony) regarding a Millersburg theft.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office, Columbia Police Department, Auxvasse Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol assisted with this pursuit. The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.
