MOKANE — A Mokane man, accused of causing an altercation at a Mokane senior living center Thursday, was arrested on several charges including child endangerment, according to Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism.
Allen Coy Chudej, 37, was charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child, first-degree trespassing, two counts of fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest and second-degree property damage.
Chudej reportedly was naked and with his 8-year-old son when he forced their way into the retirement home, according to a probable cause statement.
The first reports came at 1:29 a.m., when the sheriff’s office received multiple calls of a vehicle with a male driver driving through yards on County Road 445. While deputies were responding, another call was received from the Riverview Nursing Center, 10303 Route C in Mokane, stating a male subject, later identified as Chudej, entered the nursing center and was causing a disturbance.
An employee told investigators she saw a vehicle pull in to the parking lot, and she opened the locked door to see who it was. Chudej forced the door open and entered the building, pushing his son in before him, according to the probable cause statement.
Four Riverview employees told investigators they were immediately frightened by Chudej’s behavior. They said they told him to leave but he wouldn’t.
A deputy arrived, and while attempting to take Chudej into custody, he resisted arrest and a struggle ensued. Chudej reportedly made statements such as, “Don’t kill me, don’t shoot me,” and was asking for his mother. During the struggle, Chudej’s body struck a piano, breaking off its leg and damaging a window.
Nursing center staff assisted the deputy in the eight-minute struggle until further law enforcement personnel arrived.
Chism said the Missouri Children’s Division was contacted regarding the investigation and the 8-year-old. The Social Services Department didn’t report where the boy was taken — whether he was placed with other family members or into the foster care system.
“We are unable to provide further information as to the child’s involvement,” Chism added.
The probable cause statement also noted Chudej made statements about using methamphetamine, and he has an active probation violation warrant and previous arrests in Texas on charges including aggravated robbery, escape from custody and assault.
The nursing center administrator did not immediately return a phone call.
Chudej was placed in the Callaway County Jail pending the posting of a $5,000 cash-only bond. He was still in custody on Saturday morning, a jail official said.
The investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be forthcoming, Chism said.
