Troopers report traffic crashes

Minor injuries were reported for a 9-year-old in a two-vehicle accident on Monday, according to Missouri Highway Patrol troopers.

The child was wearing a safety device, the report stated.

The crash was reported at 8:01 p.m. Monday on eastbound U.S. 54 near Interstate 70. An uninsured 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by Santonio E. Strickland, 18, of Pachuta, Mississippi, failed to stop at a red light and struck a 2005 Ford Freestar driven by Jason A. Benjamin, 39, of Mexico. The injured child, riding in the Benjamin vehicle, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia.

Troopers investigated another crash, reported at 6:15 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 94 just west of Callaway County Road 453. A westbound 1996 Ford Ranger was destroyed after hydroplaning off the right side of the road, striking a tree and overturning. The truck came to rest on its roof in a creek. The driver, Jeffery R. Vandelicht, 30, of Mokane, was taken to Capital Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. Troopers said he wasn't wearing a safety device.
