Beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the 1100 block of Monroe Street will become a two-way street. This is in preparation for the establishment of a detour route for the Stadium Boulevard and Jefferson Street roundabout construction.

The 1100 block of Monroe is from East Franklin Street to Woodlawn Avenue.

Jefferson City Public Works Officials said roundabout work will start at 8 a.m. Monday, and the 1200 block of Jefferson will be closed.

The 900 block of Stadium also will be closed at 8 a.m. May 30.

Work on the roundabout is planned to be completed by 5 p.m. July 7.

Work on the joint project with Cole County began last summer to address traffic backing up onto U.S. 54 from the off-ramp at Jefferson Street and congestion on Stadium Boulevard.

The contract with Lehman Construction for more than $2.1 million also had funds coming from the state.

At the Jefferson and Stadium intersection, the project includes putting in a dual-lane roundabout with a right-hand slip lane coming off the U.S. 54 exit ramp through Stadium to Christy Drive. The project also will widen Stadium back to the Trinity Lutheran Church driveway.
