Jefferson City police identify fatal shooting victim

Jefferson City police are investigating a shooting death late Monday night in the vicinity of the 700 block of Monroe Street.

Witnesses reported eight to 12 gunshots being fired shortly before 10:30 p.m. Responding officers located a man - identified Tuesday afternoon as 23-year-old Taveeon Fowler, of Jefferson City - suffering from gunshot wounds a short distance away. 

Officers began life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived. Fowler was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his wounds. 

Investigators report no arrests had been made as of late Tuesday morning, but they say preliminary interviews indicate there are no immediate threats to the community.
