Fulton school board will hold special meeting

The Fulton Public School Board of Education will have a special public meeting at 6 p.m. today.
According to Todd Gray, secretary of the Board of Education, the meeting will involve updating school policies.
"There's like 51 pages of policy changes," Gray said.
Gray added most of the changes don't actually affect policies' meanings - they're more about making them as clear and tight as possible for legal reasons.
"Basically the policies are the same but you get into the legal verbiage and have to change a couple of words," Gray said.
For example, one policy being altered involves how to handle board vacancies between elections.
"With the current policy, if there's more than two vacancies at one time, the county commission appointed the board members," Gray said.
He said a few lines of that policy will be changed. These alterations were suggested by the board's attorneys and policy committee.
"It's not unusual to make changes," he said.
Other policies affected are the ones regarding personnel records; nonrenewal, suspension and termination of support staff members; graduation requirements; and a handful of others.
The meeting will take place at the Board of Education office, at 2 Hornet Drive in Fulton, and is open to the public. It will be followed by a closed meeting.
