Horton, Grayson still awaiting trial

A day in court remains unclear for either of a Columbia couple charged with a double murder in Callaway County.

Last April, Dale Horton and Jennifer Grayson were charged with the murders of Sharry Horton and Joshua Griffith. In an interview with the sheriffs department, Dale Horton admitted he and Grayson went to the victims' residence, then shot and killed both, according to the probable cause statement.

Though the alleged murders happened almost a year ago, only Grayson has a trial date. She is scheduled to have a jury trial on June 13. Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Wilson said both sides are working on a time line for Horton to get a court date.

"We want both sides to be prepared for a trial," he said. "He will get a fair trial, and this is part of that."

Wilson said the possibility either Horton or Grayson will see a trial this year are slim.

"In this circuit, for a first-degree murder trial, I would not expect to have a trial until two years have passed," he said. "It takes time for both sides to investigate."

Both Horton and Grayson are currently in custody, awaiting trial.
