Boy Scout units in Jefferson City, Linn, California and Russellville picked up and delivered Scouting for Food donations to local food banks Saturday.

Donations of non-perishable food items, canned good and personal care items were collected throughout the week.

The Samaritan Center is the main recipient of donations made in Jefferson City. Donations in other areas will go to food banks in those communities.

Center officials said this is the second biggest one-day collection of food they'll get behind the Letter Carrier's Food Drive in May.

"We like to space them out because this will keep us going for a while," pantry supervisor Carlos Robinette said. "We'll start to see more people come out with the weather getting warmer."

This year, Boy Scout units collected 5,412 pounds of food during their drive.

The Samaritan Center is the fourth-largest food pantry in the state, based on the amount of people they serve, according to the Missouri Division of Family Services. They usually help 65-70 families a week with three to four people in each family.

Donations of non-perishable food can be made from 8 a.m-3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the center, 1310 E. McCarty St.
