Man arrested after Callaway County chase

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. - An intense manhunt Tuesday morning led to the arrest of a man now facing felony charges.

David Schuenemeyer, 35, of Gerald, was booked for second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, felony resisting arrest and property damage. He was given a bond of $8,000.

According to Sheriff Clay Chism, Callaway County deputies responded to the 6700 block of Old U.S. 40, east of Kingdom City. Residents reported seeing a suspicious person trying to break into a business.

A deputy arrived to the area at 7:27 a.m. and encountered the suspect, later identified as Schuenemeyer. As the deputy approached, Schuenemeyer fled on foot, leading the deputy on a chase through fields and woods. Also responding were several other deputies and troopers from the Missouri Highway Patrol. They established a search perimeter in the immediate area.

School officials at North Callaway High School and North Callaway T-Bird Learning Center (early childhood program), were contacted as a precaution so they could secure the school buildings.

K-9 units from Boone County Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol responded to assist with the search. At 8:27 a.m., a Callaway County deputy and a Boone County K-9 unit came upon Schuenemeyer hiding within the search perimeter. He was taken into custody without incident.

Schuenemeyer was transported to the Callaway County Jail where he was booked and processed. The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.
