Area man extricated after crash

A Holts Summit man was rescued from a vehicle after a Tuesday crash, according to Sgt. D.B. McGrath of the Fulton Police Department.

Officers were called to eastbound U.S. 54 at County Road 306 at about 6:30 p.m., where they found a 64-year-old man trapped inside a 2007 Toyota Rav 4.

Emergency service personnel were able to free the man quickly, and he was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, McGrath said.

McGrath said officers learned another vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Prius, was entering the highway from County Road 306 when it failed to yield to the Rav 4. The Prius's driver, a 23-year-old female from Fulton, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, McGrath added.

No names have been released.

The accident caused a temporary closure of the highway, McGrath said.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri Highway Patrol, the Fulton Fire Department, the Callaway County Ambulance District and Central Callaway Fire Protection District also assisted with the incident.

In a separate Tuesday incident, a New Bloomfield woman received moderate injuries, according to the Highway Patrol.

Debbie J. Smith, 46, was driving along Route AA at Clearwater Road when her 2001 Kia Sportage left the right side of the roadway, the report stated.

Smith over-corrected and skidded off the left side of the road, overturning and hitting a fence.

Smith, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to a nearby medical center. Her vehicle was totalled, the report stated.
