Callaway County Court Briefs

The following cases were heard on Monday in the Callaway County Circuit Court, Division 1, Judge Christine Carpenter presiding:

James Kevin Adams, 51, of Fulton, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on each of three counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree, 10 years in prison for child molestation in the first degree and seven years in prison for tampering with a victim. He was found guilty by a Callaway County jury on June 21 following a two-day trial. The jury found Adams guilty of having deviate sexual intercourse with an 8-year-old child who shared a residence with Adams between April-August 2015. The jury also found Adams guilty of touching the child's genitals and tampering with the child by telling the child not to tell anyone about the sexual abuse. The judge ordered the three 20-year sentences to be served concurrently. The judge ordered the 10-year and seven-year sentences be served concurrently with one another, but consecutively to the 20-year sentences for a total of 30 years in prison. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Scott Allen, 52, of Williamsburg, was sentenced to three years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. Allen admitted he possessed a .22 caliber rifle last August despite having a prior felony traffic conviction. Deputies discovered the firearm at Allen's residence while executing a search warrant for evidence in an unrelated investigation. The judge suspended execution of the prison sentence and placed him on five years of supervised probation. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Jarod Atterberry, 23, of Fulton, failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Michael Brooks, 41, of Mexico, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and was sentenced to four years in prison. Brooks admitted he fled from deputies when they attempted to arrest him on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. Brooks pretended to pull a weapon on the officers during the incident, however no shots were fired and Brooks was taken into custody. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Tammy Dungan, aka Tammy Hughes, 47, of Portland, failed to appear in court. A warrant remains outstanding for her arrest.

Michael Jones, 37, of Holts Summit, pleaded guilty to domestic assault in the second degree and was sentenced to five years in prison. Jones admitted he physically assaulted a victim last October during a verbal dispute the two were having in an automobile. Jones admitted he punched the victim in the face two times during the incident. The victim testified at the sentencing hearing and asked the judge to grant probation in the case. The judge suspended execution of the prison sentence and placed Jones on five years of supervised probation. The case was investigated by the Fulton Police Department.

Joseph Wayne Mitchell, 24, of Fulton, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault in the second degree, one charge of unlawful use of a weapon and one charge of armed criminal action. Mitchell admitted he attempted to strike a Fulton man with a baseball bat last December. He also admitted after the incident, he returned to the victim's home and fired into the house trying to shoot the man. The judge sentenced Mitchell to seven years in prison for each assault, four years in prison for the weapon offense and three years in prison for the armed criminal action offense. The case was investigated by the Fulton Police Department.

Shannon Moyle, 38, of Fulton, failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

William Palmer Jr., 25, of Columbia, pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to three years in prison. Palmer admitted he failed to register with the Callaway County Sheriff within three days of his change of residence in November 2015. Palmer is required to register as a sex offender based on his conviction for sexual misconduct in Boone County in 2010. The judge suspended execution of the prison sentence and placed Palmer on five years of supervised probation. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Dylan Parks, 25, of Fulton, failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Dalton Stuart, 19, of Fulton, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Stuart admitted he possessed the drug when officers arrested him for possession of drug paraphernalia. The judge placed Stuart on five years of supervised probation. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Cassandra West, 20, of Centralia, pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery and was sentenced to three years in prison on each charge. West admitted she had passed forged checks on two occasions at a Fulton business last November. The case was investigated by the Fulton Police Department.
