The Callaway Energy Center has a new senior resident inspector to help keep the nuclear plant running in tip-top shape.

Dan Bradley was recently appointed to the position by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, leaving a similar position at the Columbia Generating Station in Richland, Washington.

On Tuesday, Bradley met with Fulton city and Callaway County officials at the city hall.

"The people here are very friendly," Bradley said. "I do have a Midwest connection, because I went to high school in O'Fallon."

Bradley joined the NRC in 2011 as a project engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects. Previously, he spent six years in the U.S. Navy as part of the submarine force. Bradley graduated from the University of Illinois with degrees in physics and radiological engineering.

As a senior resident inspector, his job at Ameren is to independently monitor the plant for the NRC. He's an employee of the federal government, not Ameren Missouri.

"We're the eyes and ears of the (NRC), meaning that we wake up, get here early in the morning and attend meetings," he said. "We report activities to our management at the NRC. The rest of the day is to complete our baseline inspection program."

He'll observe the daily activities of the plant and tour the periphiral buildings, making sure all regulations are followed. From his Columbia home, he'll be able to respond to any late-night incidents that may arise.

"Anyone can call us at any point in time if they have any safety or nuclear concerns," Bradley said.
