Though the sign out front doesn't say it yet, Modern Farm Equipment Co. has a new name. The farm implement company, originally opened in 1958, was sold to the Columbia-based Henderson Implement and Outdoor Power Co. in October, Sales Manager Jeff Threlkeld said.

The sale was spurred by a desire to grow Modern Farm's reach, Threlkeld said.

"With two stores, we are hoping to give better service and more competitive pricing," he said. "We also hope to have a greater footprint in the outdoor power market."

Threlkeld said the switch has been smooth, and comes with an expanded line of products.

"Everybody seems to be very satisfied with the change. We are doing business like we have always done," he said. "We currently still carry all previous lines, and we have added some new lines, including Stihl chainsaws and hand held equipment."

Besides a new business system, Threlkeld said the company will be easily recognizable to long-time customers.

"We have been able to keep all the employees, so we still have all our years of experience behind us," he said. "We are ready to go, and ready to help the community with their needs, just like we have always been."

The name change officially took place Jan. 1, and the sign and website will soon reflect that, Threlkeld said.
