Staff members of the Daniel Boone Regional Library are hosting a series of "community conversations," hoping to hear about things near and dear to the hearts of those people they serve.

The effort is part of formulating the library system's new strategic plan, according to spokeswoman Mitzi St. John.

"We want to hear about how to improve communities overall," she said Friday. "From that, we will be able to see trends and how the library fits into that."

These public conversations will be heard at libraries around Callaway and Boone counties in early February. Community residents also will be able to answer a brief online survey. Other sessions are also scheduled for specific organizations like community service groups and local Chambers of Commerce.

The new plan will begin in 2018, according to Melissa Carr, Daniel Boone Regional Library director.

"We've achieved a lot since 2009 under our current strategic plan. We're excited to find out what people have to say, and where it leads us next," Carr said.

Informal, one-hour public sessions will take place in several communities throughout the two counties. Each session will be lead by a librarian who will ask conversation-starting questions. The long-range planning team will review all the ideas and comments that come up, look for trends, set goals and brainstorm ways the library can enhance the library's current services.

People can visit www.dbrl.org/conversations to see a complete list of the public meetings or to fill out the brief online survey. Those interested in hosting their own community conversation among a group of friends, can also download a Community Conversation Starter booklet or pick one up at the library or bookmobile.
