Area infant killed, 3 others hurt in early morning accident

 

A Callaway County toddler died and three people were wounded in a two-car collision at 6:30 a.m. Monday, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol account.

One-year-old Brailyn Baugher died in the crash on Route M, about 295 feet east of Massarosa Lane in Cole County. Serious injuries were also sustained by the child's mother, Beth L. Mandry, 29, and Makayla Hayes, an infant sister, all of Holts Summit. Moderate injuries were sustained by Sharon M. Twehous, 51, of Jefferson City.

According to the Patrol, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Mandry went off the right side of the road, returned to the pavement and crossed the centerlane. The Tahoe then struck a 2015 Mercedes ML400 driven by Twehous.

Brailyn Baugher was pronounced dead at the scene. She was taken to University Hospital in Columbia along with Mandry and Makayla Hayes. Twehous was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

The troopers' report said all involved were wearing safety devices except for Mandry.

This is the third fatality of 2017 reported the Troop F region.
