STEPHENS, Mo. - Two suspects discovered in the middle of a burglary were arrested Monday by Callaway County deputies, according to Sheriff Clay Chism.
Justin Archuleta, 36, of Columbia, and Alicia Kauffman, 35, who lives in Iowa, were arrested without incident at the scene. The crime was reported at 8:02 a.m. at a structure near the intersection of County Road 269 and County Road 276 in Stephens, near the Boone/Callaway County line.
Archuleta and Kauffman were transported to the Callaway County Jail. Archuleta was booked and processed for second-degree burglary, stealing and possession of marijuana. Kauffman was booked and processed for trespassing. Both have since posted bond and been released pending court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.
