Fulton man killed in accident

A Fulton man died in a car wreck reported 12:15 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 54.

Highway Patrol troopers reported Cory L. Barnes, 25, of Fulton, was not wearing a safety device when he died in a the two-car accident in the southbound lanes. Another person, Kevin M. King, 46, of Byhalia, Mississippi, was seriously injured and also not wearing a seat belt.

The crash occured near State Road H when a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, carrying Barnes and King, sideswiped a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Daniel G. Adams, 24, of Jefferson City. The Jeep traveled through the median, overtuning and ejecting both occupants. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene and King was taken to University Hospital.

Police are working to determine who was driving the Jeep. Callaway County Fire and Fulton police assisted.

This is fourth fatality for February and the 13th this year.

Another wreck was reported at 9:35 p.m. Friday when a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Justin A. Miller, 27, of St. Louis, overturned on eastbound Interstate 70, east of mile marker 142.4 in Callaway County. Police said the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, overcorrected and then went left again, overtuning. Miller received minor injuries; however, the vehicle was totaled.
