Formal kidnapping, assault charges filed

Formal charges have been filed after the arrests of two women last week.

The two women, both age 20, have been accused of kidnapping and assaulting a third woman, according to probable cause statements.

Brianna K. Cavins of Columbia was charged with second-degree assault, armed criminal action, second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault and second-degree tampering with property of another, according to Missouri Case.net.

Mikayla Paige Collins of Jefferson City was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault and second-degree tampering with property of another, according to Missouri Case.net.

Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism said county deputies and investigators responded to a report of an assault made by a 22-year-old female at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 4038 in southern Callaway County. 

The victim is from the Jefferson City area and had sustained moderate injuries. She was taken by ambulance to a Jefferson City hospital where she was treated and released.

According to the probable cause statements, the victim identified Cavins and Collins. She said Collins picked her up from work at 3 p.m. Wednesday and Cavins was in the vehicle. They drove to Callaway County and stopped on a gravel road to a have a cigarette.

The victim told officers Cavins assaulted her while Collins video recorded the assault with a cellphone. She said Cavins and Collins drove off with her purse and left her along the side of the road.

Both Cavins and Collins were bonded out of the Callaway County Jail.
