A Jefferson City man is facing two charges of first-degree child molestation.
Jackie Mayfield, 37, is believed to have committed the crimes between May and September 2016.
A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement alleges the sexual assaults were against two girls under the age of 14. Both girls told investigators Mayfield had touched them inappropriately.
Initially Mayfield, who speaks through sign language, denied the allegations, but he came back to the sheriff's department after talking with a neighbor. Mayfield then confessed to committing acts with one of the girls. He said it happened while the parents were gone, and he was watching the girls last summer.
