HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - Tonight's Holts Summit Board of Alderman meeting will cover a lot of ground, City Administrator Rick Hess said.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the municipal center at 245 S. Summit Drive. It is earlier than usual due to the length of the agenda, Hess said.

Agenda items include annexations and the future animal shelter.

"We're going to be opening our own shelter at some point," animal control officer Kevin Ward recently said.

He added while the city currently contracts with someone to keep the animals it impounds, that person is planning to retire soon. Money from the city's animal control tax will help fund a city shelter, Ward added.

During today's meeting, the aldermen will discuss progress toward the shelter, according to the agenda.

The meeting will also include a public hearing regarding the annexation of two properties into Holts Summit: 10968 Old U.S. 54 and 10974 Old U.S. 54. Comments will be limited to five minutes per person.

"Those two, plus an additional third probably beginning next month, want to (be annexed) to get sewer service," Hess said. "They are just outside the city limit and will add maybe, when all is said and done, a couple of acres."

Following the hearing, aldermen will vote on Bill No. 1017-076 and 2017-077, which regard annexing the two properties.

Aldermen will also revisit Bill No. 2017-73, which is an ordinance amending the city code regarding signs. Aldermen delayed voting on the bill in November.

"I don't know whether we've gotten enough input from the citizens," Ward 2 Councilmember Charles Chamberlin said at the time.

Residents can acquire copies of the bill at Holts Summit City Hall.

The 2018 city budget will also go up for a vote, along with an ordinance appointing a city clerk for 2018.
