The April 3 election isn't just around the corner, but preparation has already begun. Filing opens at 8 a.m. Dec. 12 and closes at 5 p.m. Jan. 16.
Check with the Callaway County clerk's office at the courthouse for other election races. Absentee voting will begin Feb. 20.
A primary election will also take place Aug. 7 and a general election on Nov. 6.
Fulton City
In Fulton, candidate packets are available for those wishing to run for Ward 1-4 councilmembers. They can be picked up in the city clerk's office at Fulton City Hall, 18 E. 4th St.
Four seats are open, one in each of the four wards. Currently, those seats are held by Mike West, Mary Rehklau, Beverly Gray and Steve Moore.
Holts Summit City
Candidates wishing to run for a Holts Summit office can begin doing Dec. 12.
Seats available in Holts Summit include one board of alderman seat in Ward 1 (which includes all of Holts Summit west of U.S. 54, including Lake MyKee); one alderman seat in Ward 2 (including all of Holts Summit east of U.S. 54); and mayor.

New Bloomfield School
The New Bloomfield School District will accept declarations of candidacy from those interested in running for the school's board of education. Two positions are available for three-year terms.
Candidates can file at the district's superintendent's office at 307 Redwood Drive in New Bloomfield, or at the Callaway County Courthouse on 5th Street in Fulton.
Dec. 12-19 and Jan. 2-16, candidates can file at New Bloomfield central office, which will be closed Dec. 20-Jan. 1. During that period, candidates can file at the county courthouse.
Fulton 58 School
Two seats currently held by vice president Dennis Depping and Kristi Donohue are available at the Fulton school district. People may file at the county courthouse or at the superintendent's office from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2 Hornet Drive in Fulton when school is in session.
South Callaway R-2 School District
Filing for two seats will take place at the county courthouse or at the school office in the high school building.
Referendums
Several municipalities are gearing up for referendums. Fulton city officials have been debating a 2.5-percent "user" tax on anything purchased by residents on Amazon.com and eBay.
