Socket cutting back DSL internet service in area

August 31st, 2017 by Rebecca Martin in Local News

Missouri phone and internet service provider Socket will discontinue its DSL internet service to some parts of Mid-Missouri this fall.

Socket plans to disconnect its residential DSL customers in outlying areas of Jefferson City and some surrounding areas, including Holts Summit, Lohman and Hartsburg, at the end of September, said Socket Marketing Manager Allie Schomaker.

The company will maintain its DSL service around downtown Jefferson City, as it is served by a different method of DSL delivery, Schomaker said.

"Our future goal is to replace DSL service in the area with high-speed fiber internet, and to provide service those customers again," she said.

Socket currently does not have an estimated time frame for installing fiber internet service in those areas.

While residential customers in the affected areas will be left with dial-up as their only option from the company, business customers will have another option.

"The service they are receiving won't be available anymore, but we do have a comparable service, so we'll be able to continue serving those business customers," Schomaker said.
