Failure to register lands man in jail

A New Bloomfield man was charged Wednesday with felony failure to register as a sex offender - third offense.

Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism said Jonathan Bell, 51, was arrested after an Aug. 15 investigation. Information had been received Bell, a registered sex offender, failed to properly notify the Callaway County Sheriff's Office of a residential move, as required by state law. Bell was arrested by deputies on that date.

He remains in the Callaway County Jail on a court ordered bond of $10,000. He is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2008 sexual assault conviction in Colorado. Bell has previous convictions in Callaway and Phelps counties for failure to register as a sex offender.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.
