What results when you put 300 children together with millions of tiny bubbles is a lot of laughter.

On Tuesday, Fulton Parks and Recreation officials hosted families at city hall fountain for the ninth annual Big Bubble Blowout. Under the cover of a shady tent stood department director Clay Caswell cooking dozens of hot dogs on a grill.

"It's just kind of the last event of summer before school starts," Caswell said. "It's a good opportunity to get kids out doing something with their parents."

Other goodies - all free - included popcorn and take-home bubbles.

"I just like seeing everybody having a good time, running around," Darin Wernig said. The city's public information officer was charged with standing among the excited, soapy children and taking pictures.

If residents missed Tuesday's event, they can still visit the city's splashpad at Memorial Park, which will stay open as long as the weather cooperates.

Gloria Enloe brought her children, Gage, 3, and Lillianna, 9, and her niece, Alexyss, who is 17. She sat with Gage on her lap while he took a break from all the fun.

"We saw the event on Facebook, and my son is obsessed with bubbles and being in the water," she said. "It's one thing we can do before school as a family, before our normal schedule starts up."
