CLARKSBURG, Mo. - Salon chairs were set up under shade trees on the perfect summer morning Saturday in Clarksburg, where Robin Arnold and her staff provided Haircuts for Charity.

During three hours, 19 free haircuts were given in exchange for donations to the Moniteau County Buddy Pack program, which reached $400.

The first-time event was part of a day of activities to celebrate Arnold's 10-year anniversary of opening A Good Hair Day Family Salon in Clarksburg. Taco salad was served for lunch, and 14 attended a girls-night-out painting class that evening.

"We thought it would be fun to do it outside and enjoy the day, doing it like a marathon," said Arnold, who's been in the profession for 25 years.

"It's fun to do haircuts and raise funds for the Buddy Packs," she said.

Since her anniversary coincides with back-to-school season, she thought it would be a good offer for the rural community.

"It makes kids feel good when they look good," she said. "This little thing makes a big difference."

Sisters Megan and Addison Arnold enjoyed the fresh feel of a new haircut Saturday. They always get a haircut as part of their preparations for going back to school in California, their mother, Sandra Arnold, said.

"It's nice they had it outside," she said.

Megan Arnold, 12, said she was glad the day supported the Buddy Pack program, too.

"I think it's really important for kids to have food to eat," she said.
