SERVE workers hosted their first annual Hearts for the Homeless Toiletries Drive in February with local Callaway County Schools.

School workers and students collected travel-sized items including soap, shampoo, conditioner and other small items. Those were packaged with an information card outlining local resources to create care packages for those facing homelessness or difficult situations.

"These packs are designed to give a few comforting amenities that may not be available to a person and spread awareness of services in the community that are here to help including local shelters and food assistance programs," Executive Director Steve Mallinckrodt said.

SERVE Transportation also added one free round-trip coupon to the packs to help individuals access those services.

Participants of the Callaway County Special Services Day Program, Adult Enrichment Center and students from Fulton High Schools Explo Class helped to put the packs together.

Community members who make a donation will recieve a toiletry pack to hand out to someone in need. For more information, call 573-642-6388 ext. 0.
