Lincoln University officials are investigating complaints of mold in some rooms in Dawson Hall, the high-rise residence hall just east of the Page Library and just south of Dunklin Street.

LU issued a statement late Monday afternoon, after a parent told the News Tribune the building has a "black mold" issue.

The statement didn't confirm the presence of any mold in the residence hall.

It said LU's facilities management staff has inspected the rooms, and an outside firm has been contacted "to determine if there is mold present."

The statement reported Lincoln's Residential Life staff "received reports of possible mold in rooms in Dawson Hall" on Sunday and reassigned students in those rooms to another, unidentified, facility.

The statement said the complaints were "contained to one floor and one wing of the building, affecting approximately 15 students."

The LU statement said the university "takes the health, safety and well-being of all students very seriously," and said the school is "working to identify this issue as we strive to maintain a comfortable, safe living and learning environment for those students in on-campus housing."
