Fulton Public Schools students are off Monday, giving them all day to create scary and memorable costumes for the Brick District's annual downtown event.

"We're going to try some things different than we did lst year," said Dori Shirley of the Brick District, also branch manager of Bank Star One in Fulton.

Employees have made two large cutouts, one of a pumpkin and a scarecrow together and another of a skeleton, which festival-goers may make faces through for interesting photographs, she said.

"And Scholastic donated over 300 books, so the first 300 kids will get a book," Shirley said. "The stores will be open, and there will be volunteers from the high school and colleges to hand out candy at the front of the stores. Most of the kids will be dressed up."

The event will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, and Court Street will be blocked off to traffic. Trick-or-treaters can pick up bags on Court Street in front of the Callaway Bank or Playhouse Bistro.
