High speed chase ends in Callaway County

A high-speed police chase ended in the arrest of two women Sunday morning, according to the law enforcement officials.

The driver, Melinda Vandeventer, 20, of Columbia, was arrested for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, and displaying improper license plates. Her bond is $10,145.

Chasten Jordan, 33, of Mexico, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested for second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and three warrants for failure to appear in court on other charges. Her bond is $16,000.

According to a press release sent by Sgt. Michael Perkins of the Boone County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred at 5:43 a.m. Sunday. Deputies received a report that a person, who had warrants for her arrest, was driving a stolen car and was possibly heading to an address on Highway WW in Boone County.

Deputies responded and located a vehicle matching the description. After attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, with deputies in pursuit. Perkins said that speeds reached about 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit crossed into Callaway County, and was joined by Callaway County sheriff's deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol officers, Perkins said. About one mile into Callaway County, the speeding driver lost control of the car, left the roadway and crashed. Neither the driver nor the passenger of the car were injured, according to Perkins.

Vandeventer and Jordan were booked in the Boone County Jail and remain there as of Monday evening.
