High school graduation season in full swing

Fulton expects to graduate one of district's biggest classes

Chris Mincher, principal of Fulton High School, said that the school's 2016 graduating class will be one of the biggest the district has seen.

"We are graduating 164 young adults who are going to contribute to society in a positive way," he said. "It's been wonderful to watch them grow over the last four years."

Hundreds of students from two of the school districts in Callaway County will complete their high school education and receive their diplomas this week, according to school officials.

Fulton High School's graduation ceremony will be 7 p.m. Friday at Champ Auditorium on the campus of Westminster College, 501 Westminster Ave. Entrance will be by ticket only. The speaker at the ceremony will be Lance Bethel, a science teacher at FHS, and a member of the school's class of 1996.

North Callaway High School's graduation ceremony will also be 7 p.m. Friday inside the gymnasium at North Callaway High School, 2700 U.S. Highway 54 in Kingdom City.

This senior class, comprised of 84 graduating seniors, chose a quote by American poet Muriel Strode as their class motto, school officials said. It reads: "I will follow where the path will lead, but I will go where there is no path, and I will leave a trail."

Nicole Buschmann, NCHS assistant principal, said she believes the quote to be very fitting.

"In many ways, they will be trail blazers, and I look forward to the great things to come for them," she said.

New Bloomfield and South Callaway High Schools had graduation ceremonies last week, officials said.
