From learning about summer safety and splashing in the water to learning about the University of Missouri emergency helicopter, Callaway County residents and visitors had much to see at Memorial Park on Saturday.

One of the popular events at the park was Cindy Farmer's traveling petting zoo. Based out of Moscow Mills, Farmer makes hundreds of visits a year. This was the first time she and her animal friends packed up and came to Memorial Park, she said.

Her pets included Mousa, a 2-month-old camel; Hershey, a 2-year-old alpaca; and Pinkie, a cow born in April.

"I work with them when they're young," Farmer said, adding she bottle-raises the animals at her farm.

During her 20 years in business, Farmer has traveled throughout Missouri and Illinois.

"I like what I do," she said.

Children also had a chance to sit in a whirlybird, the Staff for Life Helicopter Service, owned and operated by Air Methods Corp. in partnership with University of Missouri Health Care. The chopper provides rapid response, critical care nursing, advanced invasive skills and safe transportation 24 hours a day with bases in Columbia, Osage Beach and LaMonte. There were three pilots on hand to educate children and their families.
